
Xia Kun, male, Han ethnicity, born in April 1971, is a native of Anhua, Hunan Province. He is a member of the Communist Party of China, holds a doctoral degree, and is a researcher and doctoral supervisor.He is currently the deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of the University of South China..
He is a distinguished professor of Yangtze River Scholars, a recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, a member of the National Key Talent Program, the chief scientist of the 973 project, a recipient of the special government allowance of the State Council, the leader of the innovation team of the Ministry of Education, an outstanding talent of the Ministry of Education in the new century, a national candidate for the Millions of Talents Project, a leading talent in science and technology in Hunan Province, and an outstanding professor of the Chinese Medical Foundation (CMB).
He has successively served as deputy director and director of the State Key Laboratory of Medical Genetics of Central South University, vice president and dean of the School of Life Sciences, executive vice president of Xiangya Medical College, and dean (concurrently) of the School of Basic Medical Sciences.
His main research interests are family collection and basic genetic research of human genetic diseases. More than 10 new pathogenic genes have been identified, our country's first autism GWAS, whole genome CNVs research and large-sample targeted sequencing have been completed, and nearly 100 autism risk genes, CNVs and susceptibility gene loci have been discovered. He has presided over more than 20 national, ministerial and provincial projects such as the 973 Chief Scientist Project, the 863 Major Project, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published more than 300 papers in journals such as Nat Commun, Sci Adv, Mol Psychiatr, Circulation, Cell Res, Genet Med, Nat Genet, Nat Neurosci, Am J Hum Genet, etc. He has won national, ministerial and provincial awards such as the China Youth Science and Technology Award, the second prize of the National Natural Science Award (third), the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (sixth), the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award (third), the first prize of the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (the third prize), and the first prize of the Hunan Natural Science Award (fifth).
