On January 6th, the technical exchange meeting for the "Research on the Design, Preparation and Performance Verification of New Seawater Uranium Extraction Materials" project under the "14th Five-Year Plan" nuclear energy development program of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense was held at the University of South China. More than 50 experts and scholars from scientific research institutions and universities such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou University, Harbin Engineering University, Zhengzhou University, and Southwest University of Science and Technology gathered together. They focused on the innovation and development of seawater uranium extraction technology and had in-depth discussions on the frontier science and technology as well as the future application prospects of new seawater uranium extraction materials. Xia Kun, a member of the Party Committee and vice president of the University of South China, attended the exchange meeting and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Xia Kun extended a warm welcome to the participating experts on behalf of the university. He stated that the University of South China will further strengthen cooperation with scientific research institutions and enterprises, continue to actively participate in the nuclear energy development projects of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and make greater contributions to promoting the sustainable development of the country's nuclear energy industry.

At the academic exchange meeting, the team led by Shi Weiqun from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences shared their latest achievement - the latest research results on a new type of ligand and composite material with ultra-high selectivity. This material can accurately capture uranium ions in the complex seawater environment, providing new ideas for the breakthrough of seawater uranium extraction technology. The team led by Professor Peng Guowen from the University of South China introduced the newly developed seawater uranium extraction material of highly efficient and stable photosensitive COFs composite membrane. This material improves the adsorption performance by precisely regulating the material structure, providing strong support for the engineering application of seawater uranium extraction technology and fully demonstrating the achievements of the team in the design and preparation of new materials.

At the exchange meeting, Researcher Yang Nailiang from the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Wang Jun from Harbin Engineering University, Associate Researcher Yu Jipan from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Associate Researcher Hu Jiangtao from the Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Liu Wei from Lanzhou University, and Dr. Qin Yilin from Southwest University of Science and Technology successively gave academic presentations. They introduced in detail the latest progress of seawater uranium extraction technology, covering the research and development of new adsorption materials, the optimization of efficient extraction processes and the key technologies for engineering applications. The participating experts also had in-depth discussions on the future development of seawater uranium extraction technology. Everyone unanimously agreed that seawater uranium extraction technology is an important research direction in the field of nuclear energy and is of great significance for ensuring the continuous and steady development of the country's nuclear energy industry. Moreover, strengthening the cooperation among industry, academia and research institutes is the key to promoting the innovation of seawater uranium extraction technology. It is necessary to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation to jointly promote the high-quality development of seawater uranium extraction technology.

This exchange meeting demonstrated the latest progress in the field of seawater uranium extraction technology in China and provided a platform for experts and scholars in this field to showcase their latest research achievements and exchange academic ideas. It will further promote the cooperation among industry, academia and research in the field of seawater uranium extraction technology and inject new impetus into the sustainable development of the country's nuclear energy industry.

The main persons in charge of units such as the Scientific Research Department of the university and the School of Resources, Environment and Safety Engineering, as well as all members of the Scientific and Technological Innovation Team for the Safe Control and Recycling Utilization of Radioactive Heavy Metal Pollutants attended the meeting.
