
Xia Kun, male, Han ethnicity, was born in April 1971, a native of Anhua, Hunan. He is a member of the Communist Party of China, a doctor, a researcher, and a doctoral supervisor. He is currently a member of the Party Committee and vice president of the University of South China.
He is a Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, an expert selected into the National Key Talent Program, the chief scientist of the 973 Project, a recipient of the special government allowance from the State Council, a leader of the innovation team of the Ministry of Education, an outstanding talent in the New Century of the Ministry of Education, a candidate of the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, a leading talent in science and technology in Hunan Province, and an outstanding professor of the China Medical Board (CMB).
He has successively served as the deputy director and director of the National Key Laboratory of Medical Genetics of Central South University, the deputy dean and dean of the School of Life Sciences, the executive deputy dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, and the dean (concurrently) of the School of Basic Medical Sciences, among other positions.
His main research direction is the collection of pedigrees of human hereditary diseases and research on their genetic basis. He has identified more than 10 new pathogenic genes, completed the first genome-wide association study (GWAS) on autism, whole-genome copy number variation (CNVs) research and large-sample targeted sequencing in China, and discovered nearly 100 autism risk genes, CNVs and susceptibility gene loci.
Responsibilities in Charge: The Faculty Affairs Department of the Party Committee / Human Resources Department (Teacher Development Center, Talent Work Office), the Science and Research Department / Office of Humanities and Social Sciences / Office of Military Quality (Institute of Higher Education, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Center), and the Changsha Base Office.
