After 40 years, we meet again as if it were the first time, with the autumn breeze gently brushing the painted fans. On the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the school, on October 18th, the 40th anniversary celebration of the 1980 Clinical Medicine graduates of Hengyang Medical College, University of South China, was warmly launched at the New Knowledge Hall on the first floor of the Library of Hongxiang Campus. Xia Kun and Zhou Qingzhi, members of the Party Committee and Vice Presidents, were invited to attend. Yang Yongzong, the former Dean of Hengyang Medical College, more than a dozen representatives of the original teachers and counselors, and more than 150 alumni gathered together to recall their youthful years and admire the new appearance of the alma mater. The conference was hosted by alumni Tan Lihong.
Xia Kun extended a warm welcome on behalf of the university to the alumni of the 1980s. He commended the alumni of the 1980s for their down-to-earth work, dedication, and contributions in the medical field, noting that they have established an image for the alma mater's medical education, earned praise, set an example, and made outstanding contributions to a healthy Hunan and a healthy China. He systematically introduced the breakthrough progress and abundant achievements made by the alma mater in recent years in terms of strengthening the school with talents, improving the quality of talent cultivation, discipline construction and technological innovation, the coordinated development of medical education and research, academic reputation, and school conditions. He emphasized that alumni and the alma mater share weal and woe, and the university's high-quality development cannot be achieved without the care and strong support of every alumni. He sincerely hoped that all alumni would often return to their "home" to visit, continue to offer suggestions and contribute to the alma mater's "Double First-Class" construction, and jointly create a new chapter in development.
Yang Yongzong highly praised the outstanding achievements of the alumni from the Batch of 1980 in fields such as clinical medicine, scientific research, and medical and health management during his speech. He expressed affectionately, "The growth and contributions of alumni like those in the 'Hengyi 80 Phenomenon' and 'Star Batch of 1980' are the pride of the alma mater and a vivid interpretation of the effectiveness of medical education." He sincerely wished everyone good health, smooth career, and happy family, and made a "ten-year appointment" with the alumni, looking forward to meeting again at the alma mater when they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation to relive the teacher-student friendship.
At the meeting, alumni representatives presented flowers to the teachers present, in a solemn and warm manner, paying tribute to the gardeners who have always cared about the students over the past 40 years and conveying the gratitude and sincere blessings of all alumni from the classes of 1980. Alumni representatives Liu Zuguo, Xu Dongliang, Liu Yani, Zou Pinchong, Liao Duanfang and others spoke in turn, sharing their growth experiences in in-depth cultivation in clinical medicine, scientific research and related fields. They all expressed their gratitude, thanking the alma mater for its careful cultivation and the teachers' earnest teachings, which have laid a solid professional foundation and rigorous professional spirit for them; no matter where they are or what positions they hold, their gratitude and attachment to the alma mater will always linger in their hearts.
Teacher Tang Zhiying, the counselor of the 80th-grade alumni during their school years, deeply recalled the youthful stories and growth moments of the 80th-grade alumni during their time at school. She felt gratified and proud of their achievements in various fields today, and at the same time wished everyone to take good care of their health, make persistent efforts, and strive for more brilliant results.
After the meeting, all teachers and students took a group photo in front of the Hengyang Medical College building, and the camera permanently captured this precious moment of the reunion of teachers and students.
