Chen Guoqiang, male, an alumnus of the Class of 1980 majoring in Clinical Medicine, is a medical pathophysiologist and a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He was born in September 1963 in You County, Hunan Province, with his ancestral home also in You County, Hunan. He graduated from the Clinical Medicine program at Nanhua University (formerly Hengyang Medical College) in 1985, and obtained a master's degree in 1988 and a doctoral degree in 1996, both from Shanghai Second Medical University.

He used to be an associate researcher, researcher, and deputy director of the Shanghai Institute of Hematology, Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Second Medical University (now Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine) from 1997 to 2002. He served as the director of the Department of Pathophysiology in the School of Basic Medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 2002 to 2009. From 2006 to 2010, he was the vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and from 2006 to 2009, he served as the dean of the Graduate School. Additionally, from 2007 to 2010, he concurrently held the positions of dean of the School of Basic Medicine and the Academy of Medical Sciences. Currently, he is the vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and the director of the Key Laboratory of Cell Differentiation and Apoptosis of the Ministry of Education. On December 7, 2015, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also a deputy to the 15th Shanghai People's Congress.

He has long been committed to research on the molecular pathogenesis of tumors, especially leukemia, and chemical proteomics. He has successively served as the chief scientist in projects of the National Key Basic Research Program (973 Program) and the National Major Science Program. He has also undertaken several key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and key research projects in Shanghai. He has published nearly 90 academic papers in internationally important core journals such as Blood, JNCI, and Leukemia. The papers he published have been cited over 3,500 times in total. As the first finisher, he has successively won the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award, the First Prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, the First Prize of the Shanghai Natural Science Award, the First Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, and other honorary titles. He has also received honorary titles such as National Advanced Worker, one of the first batch of national candidates for the New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, the China Youth Science and Technology Award, Shanghai Model Worker, one of the Top Ten Outstanding Young People in Shanghai, Shanghai Science and Technology Talent, Outstanding Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars in Shanghai, Shanghai Medical Leading Talent, and the Shanghai Peony Award for Natural Sciences. On December 7, 2015, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
