Hengyang, December 4. The International Conference on Nuclear Safety, Nuclear Emergency and Nuclear Security kicked off in Hengyang, a historical city of the central province of Hunan. The conference was host by the University of South China and sponsored by the Chinese Nuclear Society and China Nuclear Instrument Industry Association.
Attending the meeting were officials from International Atomic Energy Agency, experts from Switzeland, Germany, Pakistan, and India and South Africa, two Brics members, as well as China.
On behalf of the University, Prof. Zhang Zhuohua, president of USC, extended his warmest welcome the participants in his speech delivered at the opening ceremony.
The event lasted 3 days, during which 17 academicians, experts and schlors made presentations on nuclear safety, emergence, and security as well as knowledge management.
The nuclear history of the University dates back to 1959, when it was first established in Hengyang, a hub of uranium mining, refining and nuclear education, and subordinate to the then Second Ministry of Machinery( known as the Ministry of Nuclear Industry in the inner ring).
