January 15, Beijing -- A conference was held to mark the 60th anniversary of China's nuclear industry. Co-sponsored by China National Nuclear Corporation, China Nuclear Engineeriong Group Constrution and China Engineering Pysics Institute, the meeting focused on the understanding of President Xi's directions to the nuclear leaders, the retrospection of achievements and expertise, and prosepction of the industry.
Prof. Dr. Zou Shuliang, chairman of the University Council, was invited to attend the conference.
Hengyang Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, one of the University's predecessors founded in 1959 and specilizing in uranium mining and refining, was subordinated to the then No. 2 Ministry of Machinary. Over the past 57 years, it has evolved in one of the few bases of training and researching of China's nuclear industry.
Up to now the University research and education has covered the whole chain of nuclear energy production, from mining of nuclear fuels to disposal of nuclear waste.
